SALIDA – Walden Chamber Music Society Presents Pianist Wei Luo
October 23 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm| $30
The Walden Chamber Music Society presents pianist Wei Luo. She will perform works by Mozart, Chopin, Schubert, Shchedrin, and Prokofiev.
“The young artist is carving out her own space among her Curtis predecessors with deep sonorities, fiery intensity and unfiltered rawness. Luo’s strong connection to the Russian compositions was plain throughout the concert.” REVUE magazine, May 2018
Born in Shenzhen, China, and named a Gilmore Young Artist in 2018, Wei Luo showed interest in music and began piano lessons around age five, and gave her debut recital in Hong Kong at age six. Winner of numerous competitions in China, Wei also claimed first prize in the 11th Chopin International Competition for Young Pianists in Poland and the 2nd Rachmaninov International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Frankfurt, both in 2010. Wei is also the 2016 winner and recipient of the “Salon de Virtuosi” Career Grant in New York. She made her orchestra debut at age ten with the Shanghai Philharmonic, and along with artistic director Muhai Tang, opened the 2011 season by performing Prokofiev Concerto No. 3 in the ShangHai Oriental Art Center. See www.weiluopiano.com for more about Wei Luo.
In 2012, Wei Luo, at age thirteen, was accepted to the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music. Curtis educates and trains exceptionally gifted young musicians to engage a local and global community through the highest level of artistry. One of the most selective schools in the United States, Curtis accepts four percent of applicants each year on average, and a tuition-free policy ensures that talent and artistic promise are the only considerations for admission. With a small student body of about 175, Curtis ensures that each young musician receives an education of unparalleled quality, distinguished by a “learn by doing” philosophy and personalized attention from a faculty that includes a high proportion of actively performing musicians.
